Nelson City Council

The Nelson Regional Economic Development Agency is financially supported by the Nelson City Council.   It is a Council Controlled Organisation as defined in Section 6 of the Local Government Act 2002.

 

Tasman District Council

The Nelson Regional Economic Development Agency is supported by the Tasman District Council by way of an annual financial contribution.

 

The EDA works closely with New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE), the New Zealand Government's national economy development agency.

 

New Zealand Trade & Enterprise

NZTE aims to grow New Zealand's economy through initiatives such as the Regional Partnership Programme. This is aimed at providing guidance and funding to develop sustainable economic growth strategies.

Through the programme funding can be available for strategic planning, capability building, inter-regional capability building and major regional initiatives.

 

Ministry of Social Developement - Te Mana Whakahiato Ora

The vision of the Ministry of Social Development is to achieve an inclusive New Zealand where all people are able to participate in the social and economic life of their communities. Regional service lines of the Ministry include Work and Income (with offices in Nelson, Stoke, Richmond, Motueka and Takaka), Family and Community Services, Benefit Integrity Services and StudyLink. The Ministry of Social Development Regional Commissioner's office is based in Nelson.

EDANZ - Economic Development Agencies of New Zealand

EDANZ is the 'national voice' of Economic Development Agencies (EDAs).   As the professional organization for EDAs, EDANZ has 13 key regional members who make up the Board and over 50 EDAs that work in smaller areas.  This means EDANZ represents over 60 EDAs around the country. In addition, EDANZ has an associate membership base of other agencies and organisations which have an interest in economic development in New Zealand. As a result, EDANZ can tap into tremendous amounts of knowledge and practical expertise in the economic field.

The vision of EDANZ is "that Economic Development Agencies are seen as the primary mechanism for delivering economic development solutions in New Zealand and that economic development is a priority focus for local and central government investment."

 

Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce

The Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce has been in the business of encouraging regional development and representing the region's wealth creators - its businesses, since 1858.

Today over 450 member companies, whom range from major corporations to sole traders, continue to benefit from the broad pro-business policy platform promoted by the Chamber and the close personal networks and contact membership brings.   At times, running a successful business can seem a bit of a juggling act.
