Cycle Paths
Nelson Cycle Trail Trust
What this means for the Region
- Easier, short or multi-day rides will be provided by a loop trail and its component legs, and by a trail from the Nelson CBD up the Maitai Valley.
- More challenging off-road riding will be catered for by mountain bike trail networks in Kaiteriteri and around Nelson.
- Wilderness or adventure riding will be available on trails that include the Queen Charlotte Track, the Heaphy, and a Pelorus-Nelson trail.
- The Trust is preparing to apply to the Prime Minister’s Cycleways Tourism initiative to become part of the funded projects.
- Working groups have commenced detailing desired local routes.
- Support and guidance is provided by Nelson Tasman Tourism and the Nelson Regional Economic Development Agency.
- The Trust has the support of the Region’s two councils.
We aim to create an economically and environmentally sustainable tourist attraction in the Nelson region. A cycle way fulfils this criteria and has already been proven in other regions to be successful, and well utilised by locals and tourists alike.
